Welcome to Carlipsen.com. I am an historian of modern Italy and have been on the faculty at Indiana University since 1994. You can learn more about that from my CV and publications. I was also director of the Collins Living Learning Center (2011-2018) and a founding director of the IU Food Institute (2015-2021). Since 2019 I have been teaching in the Masters Program at the University of Gastronomic Sciences in Pollenzo. I am a fellow of the American Academy of Rome. For the past few years I have been working on the history of olive oil. The True History of Olive Oil is due out in early 2027. I have also started a substack (no fee) on all things olive oil: L'oliandolo.
